Parent Coaching

mum and baby.

Being a parent is said to be the most challenging job we are ever likely to have. It's my belief that parents today are faced with more challenges than ever before. Work commitments, family commitments, time, childcare, guilt, image, demands from our children, parental self-esteem, children who don't sleep, don't want to eat, throw themselves on the supermarket floor flailing arms and legs everywhere....the list seems to be infinite.

The quotations on this page will no doubt resonate with many parents reading this. The Socratic quotation page suggests what? That nothing has changed? Maybe we feel things have changed because the goalposts have? More is expected of us? Maybe I'm just not a good parent? Maybe it's the children's fault? It's good to ask questions. It helps to move forward to finding answers.

I'm sure that most of us have experienced days were we are feeling at our most serene. You're calm and rational. The world and everyone in it is wonderful. Then it happens. Just when you think you have transformed into the best parent overnight, your little angel accidentally spills her juice on your new tablecover and suddenly in a split second you have transformed into the Tasmanian Devil!!

You react angrily and shout. Your child shouts back and throws a tantrum. You become angrier because your child has had the audacity to answer back. It's all gone horribly wrong!! You're so wound up that you can't even remember what upset you in the first place!! Was the reaction really proportionate to the accident?

Sir Peter Ustinov

The Parent Coaching Programme is designed to help improve relationships between parent and child, particularly by helping parents in a supportive role. It can help parents understand their children better which boosts parents' confidence. In addition, the Parent Coaching Programme enables me to provide the tools to parents to raise their children's confidence. I believe that confidence is such an important element to promote a healthy self-esteem and to encourage achievement. Happy parent + happy child = Bliss!!!!

A parent coaching session is an interactive one with lots of ideas that are easy to put into action. It offers tools and skills that are practical and that can help you to:

In my experience many parents feel unable to admit that they perhaps are struggling. There is no shame in wanting to be the best parent you can be. Parenting can be considerably more difficult than it looks. It can also be lots and lots of fun and the most rewarding job you're ever likely to have.

The programme is tailored to suit individual clients but will usually consist of 4 weekly sessions. Sessions last for one hour and are suitable for parents with children of all ages. One-to-one coaching sessions are normally conducted over the phone following an initial meeting where possible. Corporate sessions can be held in-house or off site. Individual requirements are always taken into account.
